Hamas’ attack on Israel continued on Sunday, with Israeli forces responding with rocket attacks and drone strikes, but also fierce fighting on roads blocked by the militants. A surprise attack by Hamas on Saturday killed at least 700 people in Israel and more than 400 in Gaza by Sunday evening.

The footage, taken by an eyewitness from the interior of a car, shows Israeli troops opening fire on a road in Ashkelon, an Israeli coastal city that is a frequent target of rocket attacks by militants on the border with Gaza, writes The Times.

According to the Israeli authorities, fierce fighting continues in three settlements that were attacked by Hamas, and in the other 22 settlements, the Israeli army took control.

Israel’s security cabinet officially declared a state of war on Sunday after attacks by the Palestinian extremist group Hamas, a decision that authorized “far-reaching military steps.”
