
The Bucharest International Film Festival (BIFF) 2023 gathered more than 11,000 people in four locations in Bucharest from September 15 to 22.
BIFF 2023 was held in the big hall – ARCUB, Cinema Muzeul Șăranului, CREART – Garden with films and Cinema Union.
“Over the course of 8 days, BIFF 2023 audiences had the opportunity to enjoy a variety of film genres, from intense dramas and emotional stories to challenging documentaries. The quality of the selection of films was marked by the variety and thematic relevance of the presented works, contributing to unforgettable impressions from the festival,” the organizers note.
Festival participants had a wide choice of more than 30 films from 10 countries. The films were included in the following sections:
- Competition (Past Lives, Beautiful Place, Disco Boy, Inside the Yellow Cocoon, Sweet East, Tigrul, Totem);
- Panorama (“Asteroid City”, “Shadow of Caravaggio”, “Here”, “Boemo”, “Crashing Ice”, “El Eco”);
- Romanian Authors (Features – Arsenie.Viata de Apoi, Boxing with Myself – Preview, Crăiței Castle, Lost Treasure – Egregora and Playback);
- Short films – Appalachian, I believe, Distant, Roz and I soon);
- History and cinema (“Between Chin and Amin”, “The Last Transhumantsia”, “Valya Orbilor” and “Vocea Lyudmila”);
- Voice of the Youth (Who Killed Kenya) and BIFF 2023 closing film, La Bête.
BIFF 2023 also featured debates between audiences and filmmakers, critics and actors.
- “In addition to film screenings, BIFF 2023, as always, has become a platform for debate and dialogue between filmmakers, critics, actors and audiences. We had the honor of hosting numerous discussions and presentations that covered important and complex topics in the world of cinema, question and answer sessions supported by international figures in the field, such as: Italian director Giacomo Abbruzzese, director Gunnar Bergdahl – President of BIFF 2023 Jury, director Nathan Lauer with his team behind Who Killed Kenya, Nathan Lauer, director Lila Aviles, director Katarina Huber, Dejan Petrovic – film critic, Yulia Rugina – director and screenwriter, and last but not least, Katrinel Denyatsa – director and screenwriter”, also sent by the organizers.
