“The sacrificial act was committed against the Turkish Interior Ministry by a team that depends on our Immortal Brigade,” the armed group told the ANF news agency, which is close to the Kurdish movement.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said on Sunday that two terrorists had carried out an explosion outside a ministry building in Ankara, adding that one of them was killed in the blast and the other was “neutralized” by authorities there.
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which also has a presence in Sweden, has been the main reason why Turkey has long opposed Sweden’s entry into NATO.
Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO last year in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, abandoning their decade-long Cold War military non-alignment policy.
Ankara has resisted ratification for months, accusing Sweden of doing too little against people Turkey considers terrorists, mostly Kurdish members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
