A whale crashed into a boat off Australia’s east coast on Saturday, killing one person and injuring another, AFP reported.
The two men were on board a motorboat when the boat struck and overturned on Saturday, around 6:00 a.m. local time (Friday, 11:00 p.m. Romanian time), in Laperuz waters, 14 kilometers south-east of Sydney, police announced
The unconscious man was pulled from the water, he died on the spot.
Another man was treated and is in a stable condition in hospital.
The whale came close to the small boat and probably hit it, water police spokesperson Siobhan Munro told ABC Public Station.
He caused a “tragic accident.”
“There are a lot of whales in the sea right now, and a lot of whales are coming close to the boats,” she said.
The accident comes less than two weeks after a four-metre humpback whale was struck head-on by a ship’s propeller off the coast of Western Australia.
