Social Democrat President Marcel Cholaku said on Wednesday that for the moment there is an unchanged decision that Gabriela Firea is the PSD candidate for the capital city hall. He added that party candidates for local elections will be determined after the elections to the European Parliament.
“At the moment there is a decision and it has not changed, Ms. Gabriela Firea is the PSD candidate for the capital city hall. I did not make another decision. We all know, and I tell you without any hesitation, that Minister Gabriela Firea is not guilty of the “shelter of horrors” case. We all know this truth. Whether Ms. Gabriela Firea will stay or not is a completely different discussion, which is primarily about Ms. Gabriela Firea and her lordship’s decision,” said Marcel Čolaku when asked on Wednesday on Digi 24 if Gabriela Firea was still supported by him to run for capital city hall.
Prime Minister Marcel Çolaku also said that the PSD will decide on local candidates after the European Parliament elections, which will be held first in 2024.
“My priority as the party president is the first elections. The first elections are elections to the European Parliament. After the European Parliament, my colleagues and I will decide on candidates for the local elections. No candidate for the position of the president of the district council, the general mayor, the mayor of the district residence will be decided, because this is an attribute of the National Political Council, only after the elections to the European Parliament, as is usual,” he added.
