​A 38-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after he hit a woman in the Băneasa Mall parking lot and then stole her car. Then there were races with the police on his tracks on DN 1, between Bucharest and Ploiesti. He was caught in Cholpan after law enforcement officers used their weapons. Law enforcement officers opened criminal proceedings under the article “robbery”.

In a statement released on Sunday evening, the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest (DGPMB) announced that it had been informed by the 2nd police department that “from the parking lot of a commercial complex in sector 1, a car, a man”.

“The operative group of the State Emergency Service has gone to the scene of the incident, which is starting investigative actions,” the report says.

He threw away the license plates

Information is provided by the Metropolitan Police:

  • “From the evidence provided, it became clear that today, around 9:30 a.m., while being in the parking lot of the shopping complex, in sector 1, a 38-year-old man, having used violence against a woman (by doing so, he hit her with a car while leaving the scene), stole from her property car.
  • Later, near the store, he stopped to remove the number plates of the mentioned car, which he threw away.
  • The man continued his journey along the Bucharest-Ploiesti highway in the direction of Ploiesti, was spotted and immobilized with a weapon by the police officers of the IPJ Ilfov-Rutier service in the radius of the area of ​​Ciolpani.

In the capital police, it is noted that, based on this fact, the employees of the State Emergency Service on the fact of committing the crime of robbery, coordinated by the prosecutor’s office of the 1st district court, filed criminal proceedings.

“After the appointment of probation, the man was detained by the police for 24 hours. On September 25, 2023, it will be submitted to the court, with legal proposals,” the DHPMB reports.
