“Prices for equipment and ammunition are increasing. Now we are paying more and more for the same thing,” said the Dutch admiral after a meeting of the military leadership of the alliance in Oslo.

“This means that we cannot be sure that increased military spending will actually increase security,” he explained.

Bauer advocated a new approach to public-private cooperation in the field of defense with the aim of increasing production capacity.

“Long-term stability should prevail over short-term gains. As we saw in Ukraine, war affects the whole society,” he continued.

In February, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned Kyiv that it was using artillery shells at a rate faster than the West could produce. Every day, Ukraine managed to produce 10,000 artillery shells of 155 mm caliber.
