Russia said on Thursday that the United States was being hypocritical in criticizing President Vladimir Putin’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as Washington sowed chaos and sent weapons to its allies around the world, Reuters reported.

“The United States has no right to give us lessons on how to live,” said the Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, according to an official press release.

According to Antonov, the United States has created a coalition in Asia, expanded military exercises near the Korean peninsula and supplies Ukraine with billions of dollars worth of weapons.

“It’s time for Washington to throw its economic sanctions in the trash,” Antonov said.

“It is no longer possible to preserve the unipolar dominance that American officials love so much,” he added.

Washington has warned it will impose additional sanctions on any arms sales from one country to the other and said Putin is “begging” Kim for help after the loss of tens of thousands of troops in Ukraine.

“We have already taken a number of actions to impose sanctions on entities that have brokered arms sales between North Korea and Russia, and we will not hesitate to impose additional sanctions if appropriate,” said US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

He called it “alarming” that Russia will discuss cooperation with North Korea regarding programs that may violate UN Security Council resolutions.

Vladimir Putin described Wednesday’s round of talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un as “extremely productive” and said his visit to Russia would continue in the coming days.

On Wednesday morning, Putin personally received Kim, with whom he then visited the Skhidnyi Cosmodrome, before the one-on-one talks that began at 8:25 a.m. and lasted “over an hour.”

The bilateral meeting continued with a formal breakfast where both delegations gathered before the North Korean officials left the East.

The brief nature of the visit, which lasted no more than a few hours, surprised analysts who had expected the meeting to be more extensive and that Putin and Kim would discuss a wide range of topics of interest to the countries they lead. the conditions under which Moscow wants to receive from Pyongyang the most consistent military support for its war in Ukraine.
