The student association in the Netherlands has suspended the unit due to “serious and humiliating violations” that took place during the induction trip, which was supposed to take place in November 2022 in Bucharest, writes the Belga agency.

It is about the Dutch student association LANX, which has suspended its “Ares” division for an indefinite period after the emergence of shocking information related to the organization of a trip to Bucharest, writes News.ro with reference to Belga.

“Recognize the refugee” / “Sleep with a woman”

On the trip, which took place late last year, freshmen were asked to complete various “tasks” such as “identify a refugee” or “sleep with a woman” in order to gain points. Those who scored the lowest number of points were punished.

An interview published by the magazine De Groene Amsterdammer reveals that LANX allegedly received a “very inappropriate letter” with a list of humiliating tasks for the students traveling from Bucharest. According to Dutch public broadcaster NOS, the letter contained 80 assignments, each with grades, for first-year students taking part in an introductory trip from the Romanian capital.

Among the “missions” set were to “spot a refugee” and “pull a bucket down an alley,” where, according to the student association, “bucket” meant “woman.” Also, some of the students were allegedly asked to go to a strip club and steal various things.

“Every day students had to send photos of completed missions as proof. The letter stated that a ranking was established at the end of the trip and that the bottom five could expect particularly severe sanctions for the last three,” the student association said.

According to Dutch public television, the participants could not have any contact with the outside world during the trip and their social media accounts were blocked.

LANX said it never approved such “missions” and that it put the first-year students in touch with a proxy. His Ares division is currently suspended and cannot accept new members. The association, in consultation with scientific institutions, is considering other measures to be implemented, the press release says.

Vrie University in Amsterdam, where the LANX association was founded in 1980, says the practice is unacceptable. “This encourages deviant behavior,” the university said.
