The SEAT brand of the Volkswagen concern will stop producing cars in a few years, but it will not disappear and will play a different role in the German group. Seat’s current role will be taken over by the Cupra brand, which will produce several models in the future, he writes Great Britain coach. SEAT is known for cars like Leon and Ibiza.

“The Cupra represents the future of Seat,” said Thomas Schaefer, President of Seat, at the Munich Mobility Show.

The Seat range includes the Ibiza, Leon, Arona, Ateca and Tarraco models, after the end of their service life these models will no longer be produced under the Seat brand. The last cars under the Seat brand will be produced after 2025. From 2024, it is possible that the Leon model will be produced under the Cupra brand.

Some of these can be found in various forms and names in the Cupra brand, which started out as a prestige Seat brand but became its own brand.

The Cupra range includes the Born and Formentor models, and the Tavascan will be launched in 2024, followed by other electric models.

The head of the company says that the Seat name will be kept, but the brand will be given a different role, probably in electric mobility. There is, for example, a Seat electric scooter.

Volkswagen bosses have been thinking about this change for several years, in which the new Cupra brand will take Seat’s place and bring a “breath” of fresh air. It was also important that Cupra sales exceeded expectations, surpassing Alfa Romeo and Polestar in terms of volume.

Seat has been unprofitable for years and sales have fallen. Annually, the brand has about 400,000 buyers in Europe. The name stands for Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo.
