  • “When we come to the problems of prevention and the fire department comes and imposes crazy fines or closes the disco – there we are allowed to put a seal, according to the law and we seal the disco – then you see phone calls and interventions and… Not necessarily from politicians , from to various people who call and start: “But now I understand, can’t we open earlier? But is it not possible to make one more discovery and cancel the sealing that the New Year is approaching?”.
  • They receive it (such phones are not), if I do not receive it, then my colleagues, chief inspectors, receive it. We deliberately wanted it to be the law, so that there would be no exceptions,” Raed Arafat said on Prima TV on Saturday, News.ro reported.

What authorities are notified in case of a disaster

In the same show, Arafat also explained how authorities receive alerts in the event of a natural disaster, such as the explosions in Krewedia.

Asked how quickly he receives news of a tragedy that affects large numbers of people, Raed Arafat said “almost instantly” and explained that other authorities, including the prime minister and, in some cases, the president, also are informed about it. serious situations, with a large number of victims.

Arafat noted that even President Klaus Iohannis was informed about the tragedy that happened a week ago in the city of Krevedia.

“When I found out about it, I was at home. At first I was waiting for the first information, we discussed and at some point I felt that I had to go there after all, considering that we have casualties, it is a fire that is difficult to control and a situation that requires a larger evacuation zone is large and with its risks. And then, without thinking for a long time, I decided to get dressed and go there,” said the head of DSU.

According to him, in any case and regardless of the location, there are procedures that involve an intervention commander or fire chief who intervene, but there is also the option of sending an operational team to the scene of the disaster. depending on the type of intervention.

  • “It’s starting to cost us, we guess. The fact that we take responsibility, the fact that I take responsibility… it was very easy to sit at home and say “nobody’s making me go there, the fire department does it” and then let’s see if they’re okay with it take care of This is not the problem.
  • We have duties, we have an obligation, we have a conscience, and I, from my point of view, when I know that there is something next to me, that’s how I was formed, that’s how I grew up (…) When something like this happens, it’s normal to assume. I didn’t know it was going to explode, I didn’t know how it would go. I, too, could have become one of the victims there, but that does not prevent me from going,” the head of the DSU also asserted.

As a result of explosions that occurred a week ago in Krevedia, three people died, 56 were injured, 39 were firefighters.

The devastating explosions in Krevedia revealed a whole series of violations – the gas station, which belonged to the PSD mayor’s son Caracal, was closed only for documentation purposes.

The liquefied gas station in Krevedia was fined several times by the Inspectorate of Emergency Situations and closed since September 2020, but nevertheless continued to operate, and the investigation by the prosecutor’s office also aims to establish the role of the institutions that should have carried out inspections and ensured that the LPG storage does not continue to work.

The General Prosecutor’s Office is working on criminal proceedings, the purpose of which is to establish the causes of the fire, as well as the role of institutions in this case, given that the gas station has been closed on record since September 30, 2020.

Another criminal proceeding was opened by the Military Prosecutor’s Office and concerns the actions of firefighters at a liquefied gas warehouse, where several explosions followed by fires.
