Romania, without a representative in the groups of the European Cups this season – Manifest performance of Gike Hagi

Farul Constanta and Sepsi Sfantu Gheorghe were the only teams from Romania to qualify for the UEFA Conference League playoffs.

Unfortunately, both were relegated from HIK Helsinki, respectively Bodo/Glimt, and Romania has already been left without a single representative in the European Cup groups.

At the press conference before the match with Craiova 1948, Gike Hagi, the coach of “Farul Constanta”, talked about the failure of Romania in the European Cups, as well as about the revolution that should be made in Romanian football.

“That’s football: when you win and you play you’re happy, when you lose and you don’t qualify, obviously we all had a disappointing day. At the same time, I was also reflecting and analyzing. The situation is clear, Romanian football has much to develop in many directions.

This is a point that we should consider very carefully. There are two things, they are administrative, where we have to be much more organized and stronger, because that is where the budgets are made. Then comes the technical part.

All of Romania agrees that where we are is a reality that hurts us and is hard to accept. But our duty is to analyze and see what we do from tomorrow.

We need to look for reasons and change something, because if we continue the same way and turn a blind eye to it… It is difficult for those who spoke to accept this reality, but they are forced to.

Romanian teams must participate in European Cups year after year, have shareholders, strong people, as it happens in all European football.” – said Hyke Hagi.

In addition, Hagi emphasized that the countries that Romania beat 10-15 years ago progressed, while football in our country went into decline.

“I repeat once again, that’s why there was that revolution of 1989, we wanted to be free, democrats. But since then, we have regressed a lot in sports, especially in team sports. Everyone I beat or played with my peers grew up.

Then they had a budget of 80 million, and now they have reached a billion. We, in Romania, have zero. Our budgets don’t even matter, they are tiny compared to the country’s potential and population.

Of course, what happened this summer and over the last 10-15 years, I say it hurts. If it hurts… If it doesn’t, we accept it and move on, but it’s hard for Romania to come up with something really good.

Don’t forget one thing, success brings happiness, Romanians are angry at the moment. It is important that those at the top find very viable solutions that allow the sport to progress and reach the top again.” – concluded Hagi, reports Digi Sport.
