The United States has imposed sanctions, including asset freezes on two individuals and one entity, in response to North Korea’s failed attempt to launch a military satellite last week, the Finance Ministry announced, Kyodo reported.
The punitive measures, aimed at two individuals, a North Korean and a Russian, as well as a Russian company, are aimed at combating Pyongyang’s efforts to generate revenue from “illicit development of weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missiles.”
The US department said that Washington took measures in coordination with Japan and South Korea.
On August 24, North Korea launched a rocket carrying a reconnaissance satellite, but it failed to enter orbit due to a fault in the emergency detonation system, Pyongyang’s second failed attempt in three months. (Source: Agerpres)
