​Patricia Sieg failed to make a surprise appearance on the Arthur Ashe Arena and stopped in the second round of the US Open 2023 after losing in two sets to Jessica Pegula (World No. 3).

Having reached the WTA No. 700 due to injuries and problems she has faced in recent years, Zieg lost to the home favorite after an hour and 12 minutes of play, 6-3, 6-1.

In the match on the most important court in Flushing Meadows, Patricia hit only 7 winning shots (20 against the opponent) and made 30 unforced errors (Pegula made 18).

Two of the four games won by the Romanian came on the American’s serve in the first set, but Patricia was no longer able to create problems in the second set.

Know:

  • For reaching the second round, Sig will receive 70 points in the world ranking and a check for $123,000. The Romanian ranks 449th in the WTA Live ranking.
  • Patricia also reached the second round at Flashing Meadows in the 2020 edition.
  • So far, Romania is only represented by Sorana Kirstya (second round, match with Olena Rybakina, the fourth favorite).
