The ceremony of laying the first stone in the foundation of the present place of worship took place on September 10, 1851. The funds needed for the construction of the church were obtained thanks to a large collection, both in the community of Lutheran believers in Bucharest and abroad. Among the donors were Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria (1848-1867), Prince Gheorghe Bibescu (1842-1858), the Gustav Adolf Association from Leipzig, King of Prussia Friedrich Wilhelm IV, composer Franz Liszt, Baron von Meisebach and many others. The church was consecrated on April 24, 1853.

At the beginning of 1912, a devastating fire caused significant damage to the church. With great financial efforts, the roof, interior decoration and the Valker organ were restored during the year, which was inaugurated in 1910. On the occasion of the renovation of the church, both the bells, which are heard every day, and the clock in the church. church towers were installed. The rededication of the church took place on December 15, 1912.

The church is located in the center of the capital, on Strada Luterană 2.
