One of the two free defibrillators installed by the association of doctors in public places in Brasov was stolen. The device costs 11,000 lei and “has no value in a person’s home,” writes BizBrașov.

The defibrillator was stolen from Livada Postei in Brasov, where it had been installed by “Caravan with Doctors”, an association founded by several doctors.

• “In December 2022, Caravana cu medici placed the first defibrillators available 24/7 in Brasov, one in Piața Sfatului and the other in Livada Poștei.
• Last night, the one in Livadi Poshtei was stolen. I feel disappointed and disgusted.
• We always say we want a country like abroad, we want beautiful things, but we throw cigarette butts on the floor, fight lifeguards on the beach because we want to go in the water when there is a danger of drowning, and lately, we steal devices, that they can save lives,” announced Dr. Alexandru Kovaciu, the initiator of the “One Second of Life” project, through which these defibrillators were handed over to the municipality, writes bizbrasov.ro.

And the “Caravan with doctors” on Facebook reported the theft of an automatic external defibrillator located in the Postal Garden:

• “If you have seen anyone interacting with or in possession of the white package in the box, please notify the police.
• We are deeply disappointed by what has happened and would like to remind you that an automated external defibrillator has no value in a person’s home.
• There is no indication for patients to have an external defibrillator at home, there are other specific methods for patients who require cardiac stimulation. Intended for premises visited by people, for providing first aid.
• Any information can help us return a life-saving medical device to society.”

A stolen defibrillator costs 11,000 lei and, according to European standards, there should be at least one such device for every 10,000 people.
