The new head of the Botosani District Hospital, Dr. Monica Adaskalice, said that from the position she holds, she aims to change certain rules that are fixed in the entire medical system of Romania, not only in the hospital in Botosani, namely only the Doctor currently takes care of the patient, when he shows up at the hospital, News.ro reports.

Adeskalitsei said that he regrets the death of a patient who did not receive medical care for seven hours, and said that the medical department has qualified staff and patients should not be afraid to go to this hospital.

“The investigation, the internal investigation, is ongoing. When I became a manager, I also started a personal investigation to see the current situation. I want to change everything that these customs related to medical activity mean in a system in which certain rules have been perpetuated. First of all, I want everything that means protocol, procedures, all medical actions to be carried out according to current standards from 2023. The staff is prepared, but this misfortune happened,” said doctor Monika Adaskalice on Medika TV, referring to the case of a pregnant woman who died without providing her with the necessary medical care for 7 hours.

When asked about the custom, according to which, if he is not the treating doctor, no other doctor will see you, especially since the pregnant woman who died in the hospital could not contact either the treating doctor or the one on duty, Adaskalitsei explained that the first aid should be provided by the attending doctor and the guard.

“This is wrong, doctors who are on call should provide first aid to patients who have appeared in the hospital and find out whether the patient needs surgery, whether he should be observed in the intensive care unit, or observed in the ward, hospitalized. or clean and just go home. These practices occur not only in the Botosani maternity hospital, but also in the Romanian health care system.

I want us to change this mentality. After an internal investigation, these overnight nurse interventions were not reflected in the patient’s chart. But now all the commissions are investigating and we will send everything necessary to support the investigation and shed light on this case,” said the new head of Botosani District Hospital.

Also, when asked if she communicated with doctors to change the situation at the level of empathy, Adaskalice emphasized that empathy has disappeared in other areas, not only in the medical system.

“We want to change the mentality. Empathy has disappeared not only in the medical system, it is the problem of everything that surrounds us. I want to change the mentality, so since I took this position, being a doctor, working for more than 16 years in the UPU, I know what the profession of a doctor means from this point of view, but we have to change the style of behavior, but the respect must be mutual, like on the part of the medical staff, as well as on the part of patients or relatives. Both medical staff and patients have rights and responsibilities. Now we have discussed with the doctors, with the heads of departments, and we want to make a form for reports on the hospital’s website. This week there is pressure on the medical staff at the hospital level because there are many phone complaints about any problem at the level of the health care system,” said the doctor.

Meanwhile, the new head of the Botosani District Hospital said medical staff were overworked and that many were announcing they were refusing care or even wanting to leave the system.

“Staff are more than overwhelmed because we are at maximum staff shortage and there are these extremely exhausting periods and there are threats to walk away from work. There are many who have said they are giving up the guard line, others say they want to leave (…)

Botosani District Hospital is about third in the country with 1,538 beds and a staff of 2,177, about 3,000 will be the maximum occupancy. It is a hospital with several outer wards, former hospitals such as maternity, pediatric are former hospitals and have been handed over to the District Hospital. There are wards where an assistant and a nurse are on duty at night. It is very difficult in a department with 50-70 beds. Then these syncopes appear,” said Adaskalice.

Monika Adaskalitsei added that she is considering some repair work in the maternity hospital.

“Regarding the maternity hospital, the rooms that are not renovated, including the 5th floor, where there was also a patient who died, we managed to raise an alarm because this floor has to be renovated as part of the project and the room has to be taken. take into account for monitoring to see the situation at the section level,” she said.

When asked what her message is to women who have lost trust in this hospital, Monika Adaskalitsei said that professionals work here.

“I deeply regret the death of this patient and deeply regret the tragedy of the family, but you should know that the Botosani Maternity Hospital also has special medical staff, professionals with successful operations, patients who had giant tumors or other problems in the gynecological field , who were operated on.

Indeed, this fear is there, but I guarantee you, I also gave birth in the Botoshani maternity hospital and many of my colleagues, and this does not mean that now we should say that the entire maternity hospital and medical staff are not professionals. It happened, I am very sorry for this, I am very sorry for this trouble, but there are still many patients hospitalized and they are receiving adequate treatment,” Monika Adaskalice concluded.

A maternity hospital in Bothoshan was at the center of a scandal after a young pregnant woman died in the medical ward after not receiving medical attention for seven hours despite complaining of severe pain. (News.ro)
