US Open No. 7 seed Tsitsipas couldn’t break away in the first set, only to be answered by Stricker, who won after a tie.
Three long sets followed, which were eventually decided on a tie-break. The first two were won by the Greek, who thus managed to turn the tide of the game, but the third was won by an unexpected Swiss who took the game to a decisive set.
Roland Garros and Australian Open finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas raced to a 3-0 lead in the fifth set, but despite winning three games, Dominic Stricker secured a place in the third round.
The game lasted four hours and ten minutes.
Only 21 years old, the Swiss reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time.
