Several waves of Ukrainian drones attacked Russia overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, damaging military planes and disrupting air traffic, Russian authorities said this morning, Reuters reported.

Drone strikes have been reported in Russia’s Pskov, Bryansk, Kaluga, Oryol and Ryazan regions, as well as in Crimea, Russian officials said.

The most significant attack appears to have occurred in Pskov, about 660 km north of the Ukrainian border, near the borders with Estonia and Latvia, where Russian officials said four Il-76 military transport planes were damaged.

Images posted by the governor of Pskov on Telegram show a large fire, sirens and at least one explosion. Other messages in Telegram channels showed the operation of anti-aircraft systems around the city, which is located only 32 km east of the border with Estonia.

Another clip, which appeared on the network, allegedly showed an Il-76 plane destroyed by fire at the Pskov airport.

“According to preliminary estimates, nothing serious has happened, but it is difficult to determine at night. If everything is in order, the airport will resume normal operation on Thursday,” Governor Mykhailo Vedernikov wrote in Telegram, adding that there were no casualties.

Emergency services, TASS cites; reported that four Il-76s, which for a long time were the main transport aircraft of the Russian troops, were damaged at the military airfield.

Two of the planes “caught fire,” they added.

Russian military and defense officials said three Ukrainian drones were shot down over the southern Bryansk region, one over the central Oryol region and one over the Ryazan region south of Moscow.

The airspace around Moscow’s Vnukovo airport was briefly closed, TASS reports.
