Four days have passed since the whole country looked with fear at Krevedia, a commune of Dambovitsa, which is located not even an hour’s drive from Bucharest. The explosions that thundered there on Saturday night could have been avoided, say the villagers. Allegedly, there were complaints, but not in writing, but verbally, and now the local authorities, when asked whether they received complaints about the danger of the gas station, answer categorically “no”.
HotNews.ro contacted Crevedia. We specifically wanted to find out whether the tragedy that killed two people and injured 56 people, most of them firefighters, could have been avoided.
The first answer I looked for was in the town hall of Crevedia, where I looked for the mayor, Florin Petre, or at least someone in charge to talk to. However, without success.
Next, we tried to talk to the chief of the police station in Krevedia. We came across a closed door. Literally. On Tuesday, around 9:40 a.m., there was no one at the Krevedia police station.
Seven people live in a hostel in the village, another 11 live in a hotel
We continued on and headed to the House of Culture in the commune, where the local authorities announced that they had prepared everything necessary for people who, at least for the time being, cannot return to their homes after the explosions.
There I learned, even from the advisor to the mayor of Krevedia, Sandu Mihalake, that currently seven people live in the House of Culture, and another 11 people live in a nearby hotel.
Some of the villagers, for whom the cultural center has now become a family, say that in some places the smell of gas could be felt. Besides, he would also hear some complaining. However, they have resigned enough and are not looking for the guilty, but want to be helped to rebuild their homes.
“I smelled it myself, but after looking, I say: that’s the way it is, everyone does their job, what should they worry about. It was a little unconsciousness on our part (…) In the evening, they came with tanks, entered the yard, entered with a small tank and fed from one to another,” said the owner of the house, which was affected by the explosions. us when asked if the authorities had been notified of the gas station that started the fire.
Opinions were divided in the commune. If some are sure that the authorities knew about the illegal operation of the gas station because they were warned, others claim that the local authorities could not have known what was happening there, and believe that those who criticize the current mayor of PSD they do it only for political purpose.
