Andrei Bachiu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Health and former Vice-President, and later, after the resignation of Valeriu Giorgitse, President of the National Committee for the Coordination of Activities on Vaccination against COVID-19 (CNCAV), was appointed as the President of the National Health Insurance Chamber .
Andria Baciu supported the PNL in this position, in addition, he is the president of sector 3 of the PNL. The National Chamber of Health Insurance reports to the government, not the Ministry of Health, so appointments are made by the Prime Minister.
The announcement of Bachiu’s appointment as CNAS chairman was made by Bachiu himself on Facebook, thanking PNL and Nicolae Chuke.
- “After more than 3 and a half years of working in the Ministry of Health as a state secretary and a year and a half of participation in the management of CNCAV, I decided to embark on a new path.
- This entire period, dominated by an event that (I hope) you only experience once in a lifetime, a pandemic that hit the entire planet, gave me invaluable experience. From which I learned tremendously. Both professionally, as a doctor, and on a human, personal level.
- All these experiences give me the confidence that I will be able to do good things for patients in Romania and from the position of President of the National Health Insurance. (…)
- We need a society where health is not only a priority, but also a complete reality. I firmly believe that we can create a healthier, more humane environment for all patients in Romania,” Andrej Baciu wrote.
Andriy Bachiu should replace Adela Koyan at the head of the National Chamber of Health Insurance, who “caught” two mandates as the president of the Chamber: November 2019 – January 2021 and September 2021 – now. Cojan took over the CNAS, also a branch of the PNL, in November 2019 from the position of former executive director of the private hospital Polisano in Sibiu, together with Victor Kostake, who was appointed as health minister at the time.
Who is Andrei Bachu?
Andrej Baciu (age 37) is a specialist in cardiovascular surgery (graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Bucharest in 2011) and trained in hospital management at the National School of Public Health in Bucharest. In healthcare management, his experience also includes a study program at the UK’s Open University, according to his resume.
Andriy Bachiu is also a member of the NLP and the president of the branch of the 3rd sector of the National Liberal Party.
In 2016, Andrei Bachiu was one step away from being appointed Minister of Health in the Čološ government, but the offer was withdrawn after the appearance in the public space of several photos of the period when he worked as a model.
