And on Neptune, four tourists were in danger of drowning because they ignored the calls of lifeguards, who raised a red flag all along the coast of Romania. “Parents are sitting on sunbeds with phones and tablets, and children are throwing themselves into the waves with a boat,” says Vasile Bortes, the head of lifeguards in Neptun, saying that during the resuscitation of a person rescued from the sea, other tourists watched, ignoring the scene and continued to walk. into the water

Three people drowned on Monday in Mamaia, with another in critical condition after they entered the sea despite the red flag being raised. In total, the strong current picked up and carried seven people into the sea.

  • Tragedy on the coast. Three people died, one is in serious condition, three more are under observation. A lifeline to save them from drowning

Lifeguards complain that tourists ignore their warnings and continue to enter the water despite warnings of danger.

“They have only one goal: to rush into the waves”

  • “Tell the tourists not to insist on entering the water! They put their lives in danger, but they also put us, the rescuers, in danger. I have been wheezing since today, since morning, since I notified them, prayed, scolded, but in vain. They have only one goal: to rush into the waves. We try in vain.
  • Parents sit on deckchairs with phones and tablets, while children jump into the waves with floaties and other very dangerous floating devices. Our tourists do not respect, they do not have even the most elementary common sense to respect the golden rule: when there is danger, do not go drowning. We pulled out four of them ourselves and transferred them to an ambulance with vital functions,” Vasile Borteš, head of Neptun rescuers, told Digi 24.

“You don’t have a problem, they don’t care”

He says that tourists have only one argument: they gave money and want to feel good:

  • “You have no problem. They don’t care. Even if they are told that people have disappeared, they don’t care, they are not afraid. My poor colleagues are desperate.
  • I understand them very well and feel sorry for them. They are wonderful people, but we also have our powers, we cannot do more because we are not kites. We run eight, ten kilometers along the beach from morning to evening so that tourists feel good. They don’t understand that.”

“Listen to the message of the rescuers to return home”

The head of the emergency department, Raed Arafat, advised tourists on the coast to follow the recommendations of rescuers to avoid tragedy.

“The advice of lifeguards is ignored, even if a red flag is raised, people go into the water and take risks. And today we have three dead in one intervention from Mamai and another person from another place, also from Mamai, transported by helicopter in serious condition.

So the only calling is to listen to the recommendations of the rescuers. A lifeguard knows that the sea is rough, and when he raises the red flag, there is a reason for it, even if people are deluded that they can handle the waves. When they enter the water, they lose control,” Raed Arafat told Digi24.

He also noted that people who ignore the advice of lifeguards can put their lives at risk, and reiterated his call to heed the authorities’ messages to return home safely: “People need to understand that those advising them have no interest in ruining their vacation , but to keep them safe and save their lives. A lifeguard, when he raises a red flag, he prevents these situations. If they are not listened to, then everyone is responsible.”
