Russian air defenses shot down two combat drones headed for Moscow, the mayor of the Russian capital said on Wednesday morning, amid an increase in such attacks targeting the Russian capital, AFP reported, citing Agerpres.

“An attempt to infiltrate two combat drones into the city was recorded. Both were shot down by air defense systems. One in the Domodedovo area (south of the capital, No. red), the other in the area of ​​the Minsk highway.”, west of Moscow, Serhiy Sobyanin said in Telegram, not reporting the origin of the attack.

“At the moment, there is no information about the victims” in connection with the downed aircraft, he added, clarifying that emergency services are working on the spot.

Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian territory have increased in recent weeks, often targeting Moscow and the annexed Crimean peninsula.

On Monday, Russia announced it had shot down a Ukrainian drone in the Kaluga region, less than 200 km southwest of Moscow, after destroying seven others last Thursday in the same region. On Sunday, the capital’s mayor said that the drone that targeted the capital was shot down by air defense forces.

Moscow was hit by several drone attacks last week, including one that damaged an office building in the main business district, twice in as many days, according to local authorities.
