“The Romanians, the citizens of Bucharest, the citizens in general will decide to what extent they will vote again in the next election year, especially to the extent that I will run in the elections, because next year we have four types of elections, as I know all Romanians, in we have local elections, we have European parliamentary, parliamentary and presidential elections. Since I will be a candidate, the decision on whether I will remain in big politics will be made only by Romanians,” Gabriela Firea said on Antena 3 Tuesday night, as quoted by News.ro.

The former Minister of Family Affairs added that it would be premature to leave politics now.

“From my point of view, it would be premature to leave politics at a time when accusations, insults and harsh words were thrown at me without real grounds. The government does not accuse me of anything and cannot accuse me, because I was not a party and I did not take any actions against any person. Then, with that in mind, it would be fine if we were in a normal country – and I hope we are – to be able to continue our activities in this area. I worked for more than 20 years in the media, then I went into politics, and it would be normal to continue working for citizens,” Firea explained.

“Much more serious things were happening in Romania, and these people did not survive such a harsh campaign”

Gabriela Firea also revealed that she retired right after her birthday when the atmosphere was charged.

“I took off right after my birthday, after July 13, because the atmosphere was very charged, in the political environment, in the media. There were many accusations that I didn’t even have time to respond to, because they came in a cascade and with a speed that was, one might say, unprecedented, and with unprecedented severity as well. Much more serious things were happening in Romania, and these people did not experience such brutality and such a harsh campaign,” Firea said.

She also stated that she is convinced that the truth will prevail.

“But I am absolutely convinced that the truth will win this time too, even if it is a little more difficult, because there are many interests. That’s why I took my heart in my teeth, and immediately after the government meeting on July 13, I had a meeting with Mr. Prime Minister, Marcel Colacu, PSD President, I also had a meeting that day with Mr. Paulo Stenescu, PSD Secretary General, and I told them their point of view, namely the fact that the work of the government will be made more difficult with a minister who has just resigned, in the person of Mr. Marius Budai, the minister of labor, and with another cabinet minister who is still the object of very tough and undeserved attacks in that period. In fact, I resigned so that the government and the prime minister could work normally,” added Gabriela Firea.

The Asylum of Horrors Scandal

In the scandal with the shelters of horrors in Voluntar and Afumaka, two resignations took place at the top of the state – the Minister of Labor Marius Budai and the Minister of the Family Gabriela Firea left. Gabriela Firea resigned on July 14, ten days after investigators searched the horror shelters and after numerous revelations about Gabriela Firea’s ties to Stefan Godei, the patron of two nursing homes.

The Media Investigation Center and Buletin de București, the two publications that launched DIICOT’s investigation into the three asylums of horrors, revealed Gabriela Firea’s connections to people involved in the asylum abuse scheme.

Stefan Godey, patron of the St. Gabriel the Brave Association, which owns two horror shelters, worked at the capital city hall in 2016, from the beginning of Gabriela Firea’s mandate at PMB, and has worked there for almost five years.

Ligia Gheorghe, Gabriela Firea’s advisor and friend, was also in charge during the founding of the association under the leadership of Stefan Godey.

Stefan Godey has been pre-arrested for 30 days following an investigation launched by DIICOT into the asylum of horrors scandal.

According to the DIICOT report with the proposed arrest, Stefan Godei, the man who controlled the St. Gabriel the Brave association, which was targeted by the investigation, earned 3.7 million lei from the horror shelters where the elderly and disabled were beaten and starved. , with the bugs that created the worms, in incredible disarray.
