Bucharest has undergone many changes in the last 20 years, and many of them for the worse. Perhaps the most relevant example is the accelerated densification of an already overpopulated city with the appearance of new apartment buildings and residential complexes instead of green areas. At the same time, over the last 10 years, we have also seen an explosive growth of the population in the suburbs of the capital, with the accelerated construction of new areas near Bucharest. This was also confirmed by the 2022 census, where Ilfovul was the only county with a rapid population growth of almost 40%, most likely due to the out-migration of Bucharest residents.

One of the main reasons why many people choose to move outside the capital is the low prices, because apartments in Ilfov microdistricts are much cheaper. Unfortunately, the price advantage is often overshadowed by other disadvantages. On the one hand, many developers looked only at profit, sacrificing instead the quality of work, green spaces, distances between blocks, that is, compliance with the law itself in many cases. On the other hand, local authorities and other institutions are either unable to verify compliance with the law, or tolerate or even become complicit in construction violations.
