Two boys aged 8 and 10, respectively, were seriously injured by an explosive device that was found while playing in a village in the south of the Kherson region, the head of the regional military administration Oleksandr Prokudin said.
The boys are among the four injured in the Kherson region over the past day, when there was also one dead, writes News.ro with reference to the CNN channel.
Children were playing on the street in the village of Trifonivka, northeast of Kherson, when, according to the official, an “unknown object” was discovered on the street.
“The device exploded while they were playing,” Prokudin wrote on the social network. “The children received brain injuries and bruises. The youngest also received shrapnel wounds to his torso and arms, as well as a burn to his leg.”
In his address, Prokudin asked Ukrainian parents to talk to their children about safety and not to play with unfamiliar objects.
Over the past day, Russian troops fired 10 shells at the city of Kherson and bombed the neighboring region 69 times, as a result of which one person died, Prokudin said.
The military administration of the Kherson region reported that in the village of Rozlyv, west of the city, two people were wounded as a result of shelling, but did not provide details.
Prokudin said the bombings damaged civilian infrastructure in several parts of the region.
