In the Official Gazette on Monday evening, on the one hand, the decision to dismiss Mirchi Abrudyan from the position of head of the Prime Minister’s office, and on the other hand, the decision to appoint him to the position of general secretary of the government, in the rank of minister

Both decisions were signed by Prime Minister Marcel Cholaku.

At the same time, Alexandrou-Mihai Gihiou was appointed head of the Prime Minister’s Office in the rank of minister, replacing Abrudean.

Appointing Abrudean as head of the SGG was on the agenda of a meeting of PSD and PNL leaders in the government after Marcel Cholaku refused to appoint Mircea Abrudean as secretary general of the government, angering the liberals. According to political sources, Cholaku would take advantage of the intelligence service’s recommendation that Abrudan would not be suitable for the SGG position.

Earlier, the liberals accused the new prime minister of refusing to appoint their person to the position of the head of the General Secretariat of the Government (SGG), Mirchu Abrudyan, whose position was negotiated before the reshuffle of the prime minister.

During the voting, the PNL decided with 68 votes “for” and 2 votes “against” that Mircha Abrudyan should also be included in the list of ministers for the post of Secretary General of the Government.

NLP lawmaker Pavel Popescu wrote on Facebook in mid-June that PSD’s refusal to appoint liberal Mircha Abrudyan to the post of general secretary of the government was a “serious breach of protocol between our parties.”

“Mr. Prime Minister Marcel Čolaku, we are waiting for your signature tomorrow morning (not on Monday), first thing in the morning. Gentlemen always keep their word, even in politics,” Popescu added.

On June 22, PNL President Nicolae Chuke stated that there were all the necessary permits for the appointment of Mirchi Abrudian as the Secretary General of the Government, and specified that a solution would be found on this matter.

“We agreed that once we have resolved these issues, which are absolutely a priority and necessary for the smooth running of the government, to hold this discussion as soon as possible, it is not necessarily a priority,” the PNL leader said.

Mircea Abrudan is a close friend of Emil Bok. A former prefect of Cluj County, he was appointed head of Prime Minister Cuke’s office in the rank of minister on December 7, 2021. In February 2021, he was appointed as Deputy Secretary-General of the Sitsu Government.
