
Prosecutors of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) have decided to prosecute eight defendants in the “Medusa case” for crimes related to the creation of an organized criminal group, illegal trafficking of high and dangerous drugs and possession of dangerous drugs for personal consumption. one defendant is under pretrial detention, two are under house arrest, four are under judicial control and one is at large, there are three plea agreements in the case file.
According to a DIICOT press release cited by Agerpres, Operation Medusa investigated an organized crime group initiated and created in May 2022 by the three main defendants involved in high-risk, high-risk drug trafficking. This group was successively joined by other defendants, including a minor who was 15 years old at the time.
“Defendants operated at several levels of command and execution, which consisted of confirming the membership of some of the defendants in the group and their integration, coordinating sales to consumers, supplying, respectively, the sale of high-risk and high-risk drugs. to young and very young consumers, a young man. In the case, financial investigations were conducted regarding transactions with crypto-currency carried out by some of the participants,” the report says.
What punishments are demanded by the prosecutors?
On June 20, a plea agreement was concluded, in which the defendant was asked to be sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison and to remain in custody until the day of the decision.
Previously, on June 13, as part of the plea agreement, the court requested that the adult defendant be sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment with a suspended sentence of 4 years under supervision. during which he will perform unpaid work for the benefit of the community for a period of 60 days.
Also, in the plea agreement, the minor accused was offered to choose an educational measure in the form of daily care for a period of six months.
“The indictment asks for the special confiscation of narcotics, several mobile terminals, a meat grinder and electronic scales seized during the search of the house, as well as the sums of money that were found to be obtained from the sale of drugs, and also to order the accused to pay some court costs paid by the state in the amount of 60,000 lei,” prosecutors say.
The case was referred to the Bucharest court for a competent decision.
