His reaction came after Reuters recently reported, citing information from the file, that aspartame, one of the most widely used artificial sweeteners in the world, should be declared a possible carcinogen by the World Health Organization.

“In general, there are many substances that are used and in the food industry there is a sweetener that is very widely used, you can also find them in the form of microtablets that you can use at home to sweeten coffee or tea.

But these products are dangerous if consumed in very large quantities. With regular use of such… you drink half a liter a day, or a maximum of one liter, there are no problems,” said Alexandru Rafila.

He stated that people who consume a lot of tea or coffee in which they put a lot of aspartame tablets can have digestive problems such as diarrhea or nausea.

“Any excess leads to such a situation, but you understand that no one allows a carcinogenic product in small quantities. So is smoking. It is carcinogenic. Many people smoke. This is a problem related to excess, which can be related to alcohol, aspartame. Quantity matters and we must limit it.

In any case, I don’t recommend drinking such drinks with high sugar or even sweeteners, I think it’s not a good idea because they also contain many other substances, additives… the natural part of the product is quite limited,” the doctor added.
