Olena Ostapenko reached the semifinals of the WTA tournament in Birmingham on Friday. The second favorite of the competition defeated Magdalena Frech in three sets with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Number two favorite in Birmingham Olena Ostapenko qualified for the boxing tournament.

Ranked 17th in the WTA hierarchy, the Latvian lost the first set of the match against Magdalena Frech (72 WTA), but made a sensational comeback in the second act, when the opponent was already leading 4-0.

Ostapenko won the second set 7-5 to take the match to a decider, where it was only a matter of time before she wrapped up the match after two hours and 16 minutes.

In the semifinals, Olena Ostapenko will meet the winner of the duel between Harriet Dart (134 WTA) and Anastasia Potapova (21 WTA).

The Rothesay Classic Birmingham will be held from June 19 to 25 on grass and is part of the WTA 250. It offers a total prize pool of $259,303 and the reigning champion is Beatrice Haddad Maia.
