In a public comment to regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov, two residents said that the Russian military, sent to guard their village of Nova Tavolzhanka, instead looted their homes.

Several thousand people were evacuated from the area when Russian volunteers opposed to President Vladimir Putin’s regime launched cross-border raids in late May.

One of the residents, Nataliya Semerchenko, informed the governor on Thursday on the VK social network: “The troops of the Russian Federation are breaking into many houses (although a state of emergency has not been imposed and they do not have the right to enter private houses).”

“They live in our house, lead a bad lifestyle, drink alcohol and leave garbage, toilets and houses are dirty, personal things are stolen,” she wrote.

“We don’t want these houses of ours, which have already suffered from the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to be another shelter for our defenders!” she added.

Volodymyr Zhdanov, the head of the Shebekin district administration, informed Shemerchenko in response that “her appeal has been forwarded to the Security Council.”

Another comment, written on Wednesday, claimed that the house from which the family fled was occupied by Russian soldiers.

“They broke into two houses, broke the doors with a crowbar, broke the windows,” said local resident Danylo Bilich.

“Everything was turned over, they were looking for small things, precious things, some of them were stolen, in one of the houses there were acts of vandalism, TVs were broken, furniture was torn out. It is clear that military personnel live in the house,” he added.

Other comments in response to the governor’s address focused on the alleged lack of social support allegedly promised to evacuated residents.

“We are located outside the Belgorod region, in the city of Zelenograd. I have been trying to get an answer for a week, how do we get the money? We have two children, we don’t live, we survive! Thanks to the volunteers from Moscow, even though they bring food!” said one of them.
