The announcement from the management of TVR comes after the National Broadcasting Council (CNA) at a meeting on Tuesday imposed sanctions on Romanian Television through a “public challenge” for broadcasting a sexually suggestive song performed by lead singer Daniel Jancu on the show. “Rivals”, broadcast on TVR 2, and for the joke of host Marina Almashan about marriages in India, writes news.ro.

Given the current situation, the management of TVR 2 station asked Dan Turturik to create a disciplinary commission to investigate those guilty of violations authorized by the CNA.

The head of TVR granted the request and ordered the formation of a disciplinary commission.

Romanian television regrets this incident and publicly apologized to viewers.

According to CNA, in the edition of 25.03.2023 there were two moments (the folk song “Olguţa gelofila” performed by Daniel Janku and, accordingly, the presenter’s joke about why marriages in India are “the longest on the map of the world”), the broadcast of which did not comply with the regulations Art. 47 par. (3) of the Audiovisual Code [„Sunt interzise în programele audiovizuale afirmaţii defăimătoare generalizatoare la adresa unui grup/comunităţi definit(e) de gen, vârstă, rasă, etnie, naţionalitate, cetăţenie, credinţe religioase, orientare sexuală, nivel de educaţie, categorie socială, afecţiuni medicale sau caracteristici fizice”].

CNA member Dorina Rusu called the broadcast of the song “a moment of bad inspiration”, writes Pagina de Media.

Excerpt from the song: “Helu is about to get married/ Helu wants to marry a big girl./ He goes to ASE for the first time,/ But the ball is still there!. Gelu still wants a big girl./ She chooses a kindergarten by chance./ Olgutsa plays with other children,/ And Gelu thinks: “I’m lucky!”.

As Pagina de Media reports, Maryna Almashan referred to the lack of an audience.

  • “You know, I’ve been in a lot of trouble since our last meeting, because I was completely uncomfortable looking at myself through your lens and realizing that what I was doing in good faith was somehow misunderstood, not necessarily wrong, but understandable apart from what I wanted to convey…
  • In general, young people no longer watch TV. Unfortunately, no one watches TVR anymore, neither young people, nor adults, or very few.
  • I am desperately trying to find a formula to impart education by wrapping my efforts into a marketable package.
  • Looking at the audience graphs and seeing that the average audience for the entire channel is 0.3%, that’s a third of the people watching the programs and I’m desperate.
  • Perhaps from this desire and this excessive zeal of mine to make my educational approach reach someone and not 0 people, maybe I made it more vivid than people expect from a public broadcasting program,” said the TV producer.
