
Romanians are no longer willing to pay extra to drink bottled water in an economic climate characterized by record inflation and increasingly high costs of living.
Panorama analyzed this trend and found that, in addition to rising prices, the decline in bottled water consumption was also driven by more cost-effective alternatives on the market. We are talking about modern filtration or water purification systems, sales of which have increased significantly over the past three years. Such systems have a number of advantages, the main ones being the quality of the extracted water and lower purchase and maintenance costs compared to the cost paid for water in PET.
Only 45% of Romanians surveyed in a market study conducted in March 2023 say they still drink bottled water. This is 20% less than two years ago. Inflation was the main reason for this decline, with affordability being the most important factor influencing the decision to purchase water by PET.
