A 24-year-old driver from Prahov County was arrested on suspicion that he injured an 18-year-old pedestrian while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and then fled the scene of the accident. A few hours later, the victim died in hospital, reports news.ro.

The accident happened on Sunday evening, around 11:00 p.m., on county road 101 in the Chupelnica commune of Prahova county.

As the police established, a 24-year-old driver hit an 18-year-old pedestrian who was walking on the side of the road, and after the accident the driver did not stop and did not report the incident.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital, but he died on Monday morning.

“After conducting investigative actions, the police identified and subsequently found a person suspected of committing a crime, and this is a 24-year-old man from Dumbrava commune. Because the driver was tested for alcohol intoxication on a breathalyzer, which showed 0.88 mg/l of pure alcohol in exhaled air. He was also tested using the DrugTest device, which showed a positive result for a psychoactive substance,” the Prahova police report.

On Monday, the driver will be presented to prosecutors to choose another preventive measure.

The police continue the investigation in open criminal proceedings regarding the crimes of involuntary manslaughter, driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and psychoactive substances, and leaving the scene of an accident without the consent of a police officer.
