King Charles III’s visit to Romania is of a private nature, British Ambassador to Bucharest Andrew Noble told Agerpres, adding that the monarch will meet President Klaus Iohannis as a courtesy gesture.

In addition, the diplomat noted, this is the first time that the British monarch is visiting our country.

“It has been 25 years since our King first visited Romania, in 1998, and this will be the first time a British monarch has visited Romania, but this time it will be a private visit, like most visits by the then Prince of Wales them in Romania. We understand what a private visit means: as always, he will meet the president as a courtesy gesture. After he visits Kotrochen, the rest of the visit will be private. He’s known to have various projects that he’s been involved in over the years and private visits usually involve things like that, and I expect they will this time, but there will be private meetings,” Noble said.

He explained that the past involvement of the Prince of Wales in the activities of non-governmental organizations is part of the activities carried out by the British government.

“Our government closely cooperates with public organizations in all spheres. So there is no problem with being able to cooperate with non-governmental organizations as a king, only that when he acts as a king, he does so on the advice of the government. This is a private visit,” the ambassador added.

The diplomat did not provide more information about King Charles III’s visit, stressing that its private nature would be respected.

“I don’t want to give details because I want (the visit – no) to be as quiet and discreet as possible for the king. One of the great advantages of Romania is its tranquility, so his private visits here will be respected as such,” Andrew Noble emphasized.
