Eva Kylie, who was arrested last December after a wave of searches, was released from prison in mid-April but was placed under house arrest and forced to wear an electronic bracelet.

The measure is “no longer necessary to continue the investigation” and she has been released under judicial supervision, spokesman Eric Van Duys said.

Two other suspects in the corruption case benefited from the lifting of this home surveillance measure this month.

It is about the Belgian MEP Mark Tarabella, who, like Eve Kylie, declares his innocence, and Francesco Giorgi, the partner of the Greek MEP, former parliamentary assistant Pierre Antonio Panzeri.

Pier Antonio Panzeri, a former member of the European Parliament from Italy (2004-2019), who is at the center of the case, still wears an electronic bracelet – a method of preventive detention in Belgium.

In this corruption scandal benefiting Qatar and Morocco, at least six suspects have been indicted on suspicion of participating in a criminal organization and money laundering.

The scandal erupted in December, when Belgian investigators confiscated during searches in Brussels – in the homes of Eva Kylie and Pierre Antonio Panzeri – an amount of 1.5 million euros in small banknotes, in suitcases or bags.

The investigating judge in charge of the investigation, Michel Claes, suspects that the cash payments were made in exchange for decisions or taking political positions favorable to Qatar and Morocco in the European Parliament, allegations that Doha and Rabat strongly deny.

44-year-old Eva Kylie was the vice-president of the European Parliament before the scandal broke out.

Like Mark Tarabella, she was a member of the Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group, from which she was expelled. (News.ro)
