The deciding set ended in a draw, but the ending resulted in a victory for the Chilean player over reigning tournament champion Ruud.
The game lasted two hours and 33 minutes.
In the semifinals of the competition, Nicolas Jarry will meet the third favorite German Alexander Zverev (27 ATP).
The Geneva Open takes place from May 21 to 27 on outdoor clay and is part of the ATP 250 category. The total prize money is 562,815 euros, and the title champion is Casper Ruud of Norway.
