The USR said on Sunday after a meeting at Victoria Palace between education representatives and Prime Minister Nicolae Chuke that it was no surprise that talks between education unions and the government had broken down, News.ro reported.

USR shows that tomorrow, in the plenary session of the Senate, the PNL and PSD must make a single gesture if they support the teachers: to pass USR’s amendments to the education laws regarding salary increases. Everything else means hypocrisy and empty promises.

“We are on the side of education in Romania. Teachers, students and parents are victims of PSD and PNL. In education, there is a problem with salaries, while a beginner teacher has a salary of 2,400 lei, we have special pensions of 18,000 lei and Valeriu Zgonia has a salary of 11,000 euros. Mr. Zgoni’s salary could provide the salary of many aspiring teachers.

These people need to be given a perspective because we want more people to go to education and have money for a decent life. The only solution is what the USR says: we need to sensibly reform public spending, cut sinecures and special pensions,” USR President Katelyn Drula said.
