Tourists “vote” for the Greek summer

A parallel universe with an atmosphere completely different from that prevailing in the districts and quarters of Athens, reminiscent of the historical center of the city from Syntagma Square to Monastiraki.

And maybe the movement in the central election kiosks of the parties is muted, but in Ermou and its nooks and crannies, as well as on Syntagma Square, a lot of tourists enjoy their holidays in Greece.

Some eat ice cream in front of the fountain in the square, others stop at Kapnikarea to consult their guide or buy a traditional Greek bagel.

Tourists
Amit and Einat, two Israeli friends, visit Erma with a large group of tourists from their country.

“We came from Barbados to rest in your country. After the cruise to Mykonos and Santorini we returned to Athens for two days. We had no idea there was an election going on today, the taxi driver told us a while back,” Katie and Tiffany White tell K, noting that, aside from the big booth in the square, there is no other evidence that there is an election in the country.

“We heard about it from you,” says Alan Perry from Kentucky, America, who, along with his wife Mary after visiting Turkey and then the island of Crete, ended their vacation with three days in Athens. “In Turkey, you understand that the climate is very political, here we feel that it is already summer,” says Mr. Perry.

Tourists
Before visiting our country, Alan and Mary Perry spent a few days in Turkey, where we were told there was a pronounced political climate.

Amit and Einat, again two Israeli friends who are visiting Erma with a large group of tourists from their country, say they know from social media how the elections are going in Greece, since, as they note, this issue also affects the international media. “It is very beautiful here, I hope everything will be fine with you, Greeks,” they say before parting.
