On November 23, 2002, tens of thousands of Romanians, including various personalities from the world of sports, gathered in front of the Royal Palace in the capital to watch the speech of the then leader from the White House, who was going to announce the decision of the North Atlantic Alliance to accept Romania into its ranks.

“It is a great honor for me to convey a message to the Romanian people: we proudly invite you to join NATO, the great alliance of freedom,” said the leader from Washington. That day, Bush and the former great champion Ilie Nestase were the main characters of a moment that Bohdan Enoiu clearly remembers.

“I didn’t organize it, but the CIA, the government, I don’t know (laughs). I gave him the communication side. Everything went well, I also chatted with mr. I liked him, that he involved us in NATO.
