Do babies listen to Theodorakis?

About a decade ago, composer Tassos Ioannidis discovered while visiting a music store that despite the availability of various CDs of music for babies—he had seen Mozart for babies, AC/DC for babies, etc.—there was nothing like it. , with works by great Greek composers. “It was then that I decided to take action, creating a new line that would appeal to the sensitive ears of a child,” he recalls. It started with the CD “Tsitsanis for Babies”, followed by “Theodorakis for Babies”, last year, and in connection with the centenary of the Asia Minor catastrophe – “Smyrnaika for Babies” (with favorite songs from the Smyrna region) and a few months later a version of “Harhakos for Babies” will be released.

“The richness, diversity as well as the uniqueness of Greek music is the characteristic that defines us as a people. Just as we teach our children our Greek mother tongue, I find it important to immerse our children in the threads of our music. In this way, the energy field embedded in the melodies of our leading composers can accompany our babies throughout their lives,” he notes. “The feelings of joy that arise when listening to Crabs by Tsitsanis or Theodorakis’ Boat on the Rock are recorded on the unwritten hard disk of their memory. This experience, I think, can be an emotional basis for optimism and positive self-determination in their later life.”

Each CD includes a “bouquet”, as he describes it, of the ten most famous and beloved songs of each composer – with a valuable contribution, which he would like to acknowledge, arranger Kostas Catomeris, “who made the greatest contribution to our collaboration for the final sound settings for each album. One of the criteria for choosing songs is always rhythm. “I wanted the songs to be happy. Let the children move, dance in their crib,” he explains. “When babies listen to fun music,” scientists say, “new neuronal synapses are created in the brain, maintaining a sense of well-being and joy, which have a beneficial effect on their future behavior.”

Composer Thassos Ioannidis

Composer and creator of the very successful cycle of more than two hundred songs “Lakhana and Khakhana”, the show “Lakhana and Khakhana-Click in Lakhanohakhanochore” (every Saturday at 9.00, ERT2) and many other musical fairy tales, recording projects with famous Greek artists (Eleni Vitalis, Manolis Mitsias, Miltos Paschalidis, Pantelis Thalassinos, Yiannis Kotsiras, etc.), musical compositions for theater, film and television, he finds the music of great composers inspiring, mentions the word often in our conversation.

“When a child comes into contact with the vibration of the energy field called song, which is inspired (by breath, breath, spirit, inspiration, that is, in the spirit), then the child communicates with the most essential aspect of his being, the spiritual his essence, his “being “. By age 7, a child’s brain is an unwritten hard drive. What they put into that hard drive through their five senses, but more importantly, what they feel when they listen to music follows them throughout their lives,” he says. In addition, he considers children to be “emotional sponges” recognizing great values: “Love and Truth. If they like something, they react positively, smile, jump. If they don’t like something, they immediately show it, cry, whine, they don’t care. Inspirational songs contain both love and truth.”
