The Serbian government wants to return all illegal firearms

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Wednesday that Serbian citizens have so far handed over 3,000 firearms and tens of thousands of bullets of various calibers to the country’s authorities as part of a campaign launched by the government after last week’s bloody attacks.

“This is good news,” Vucic told Pink TV, adding that the campaign is important for Serbia, even though he knows many are unhappy about it.

“We have ensured a large police presence in the schools and the response from both parents and teachers has been positive. Now teachers will have more rights, and children will no longer be able to make abusive gestures,” the Serbian president added.

He also announced the urgent recruitment of new police officers.

On Monday, the Serbian government decided that within a month, all those who own firearms without a license must voluntarily surrender them without criminal consequences.
