In a statement on its official website, the ITIA (not the International Tennis Integrity Agency) outlines exactly what steps it takes in the case of an athlete who tests positive, such as Simona Halep.
The ITIA says a doping review can take up to a year
After the former WTA leader said in a wide-ranging interview with Tennis Majors that her process was taking too long and that she wanted some clarification from those involved in the matter, the ITIA issued a comprehensive statement.
In a post on the ITIA’s official website, it also makes a conclusion that could also be applied to Simona Halep’s case: such a doping trial could last up to a year.
It is updated.
Know:
- Simona Halep is temporarily suspended from tennis due to a positive test for Roxadustat (conducted during the US Open 2022).
- Simona’s case will be heard by Sport Resolutions, an independent tribunal in London that hears doping cases in white sport.
- However, if innocence cannot be proven, Simone has one more appeal: the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne.
- It will be recalled that the maximum suspension that Halep could receive is 4 years.
