“We are deleting accounts that have not been active for several years, so you will probably see your number of followers decrease,” he noted on his page on the social network, which he officially took over at the end of October last year. .

In a later post, Musk clarified that many of the usernames, so-called “handles” used by Twitter, would become available as a result of the transition. However, he did not explain how users will be able to obtain these names, other than the usual method of creating a new account.

TechCrunch reporters note that in recent months, Twitter has considered selling usernames at online auctions to generate additional revenue, but it is not yet clear how exactly this plan will work.

Last December, Musk floated the idea of ”soon making public” the names of at least 1.5 billion Twitter accounts, noting that the process would involve deleting inactive accounts.

In October 2022, he also spoke about this, saying that this measure was one of those he would take as the new owner of Twitter. Later, Musk fired thousands of employees of the American company, changing the management of Twitter and assuming the position of CEO.

Andrew Tate’s reaction to the South African billionaire’s statement

British millionaire Andrew Tate mocked his new profit-making venture for the company, which responded to his post about deleting inactive accounts, saying:

“It’s a good idea. But my father died and I still read his story every day. Please keep it active.”

Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were released from police custody and placed under house arrest on March 31 in a final ruling by the Bucharest Court of Appeal.

Although the exact size of Andrew Tate’s net worth is unknown, it is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars, and he earns a lot of money from his activities on the Internet.

In a post published late last year, Musk appeared to express his support for the British millionaire following the announcement of his detention in Romania.

Twitter suspended Tate’s account after the South African billionaire bought the company, a move it has done with other controversial public figures such as rapper Kanye West. However, West’s account was suspended again in early December after a series of anti-Semitic posts he posted.
