This year, the OTE Group Telecommunications Museum once again celebrates World Telecommunication Day (May 17) and International Museum Day (May 18) with events and educational programs inspired by this year’s celebration theme “Museums, Sustainability and Quality of Life”.

As stated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), its goal is to highlight the role and power of museums in achieving sustainable development goals and improving the quality of life of society.

This year the activities of the Museum of Telecommunications in Nea Kifisia will begin on Sunday, May 14, and end on Thursday, May 18, 2023. This year at the Museum, in the new thematic sections of the 2nd floor and with activities in the new study hall, as well as in the courtyard.

With the help of technology, on interactive augmented reality and imaginative sandbox tables, young and old will create natural scenarios with lakes, rivers and mountains, do holiday crafts and participate in short excursions. In fact, for those teenagers and adults who want to play sports, a dedicated Pilates instructor will work in the museum courtyard, and the OTE Athens Mixed Choir will take participants on a journey into the world of musical creativity.

Along with the activities at the Museum, this year the Elefsina Love Center and the Center for Education and Pedagogical Support in Athens will host a visual master class “Museum Stories Come to Life in the Garden”. There, inspired by the history of telecommunications and the relationship of communication to well-being and the environment, children will learn about trash art (art from recycled materials) and how to reuse materials, as well as create recycled phone booths and antennas. as decorative supports for garden and pots.

For more than 30 years, the OTE Group Telecommunications Museum has been preserving the cultural heritage of the country’s Telecommunications. Today, the museum’s collections include over 4,000 items and 33,000 documents such as maps, telephotos, telegrams, photographs and rare audiovisual materials.

Using new digital technologies, the OTE Group Telecommunications Museum makes its collections available to the general public and researchers, and through its website offers digital tours, a virtual tour of the permanent collection, and on-demand educational programs. On this journey, the Telecommunications Museum embraced the principles of sustainable development, as did the OTE Group, contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.
