
Documentation regarding the removal of the Soviet symbols “hammer and sickle” from the monument in Kyiv is already underway, Minister of Culture Oleksandr Tkasenko said on national television, Kyiv Independent reports.
“Now the project documentation is being prepared to understand how and how best to remove it, what works to be carried out there,” he said.
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine voted on Wednesday for the law on the dismantling of monuments of the Soviet and Russian empires that remained in Ukraine.
The law stipulates that monuments dedicated to persons who held leadership positions in the Communist Party, events related to the Communist Party and the establishment of Soviet power on the territory of Ukraine, as well as symbols of Russian imperial or Soviet totalitarian policies are no longer subject. is considered part of the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
On May 2, the Ukrainian parliament has already passed a resolution defining the regime of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin as “racism,” also known as “rashism” or “Rusism,” short for “Russian fascism.”
This refers to Russia’s expansionist political regime, mixed with ultra-nationalism and a cult of personality centered around Putin.
In May 2015, the Ukrainian government adopted laws to begin reconciliation with the country’s communist past.
