The criminal group was dismantled by the North East Attica Security Subdivision of the Attica Security Authority, whose members carried out major thefts in houses in various parts of Attica.
In order to eliminate the criminal group, on the night of yesterday Thursday, May 4, 2023, with the assistance of the OPKE police officers, a coordinated police operation was carried out, during which six people were detained.
They were prosecuted for a criminal organization (gang), singled out cases of theft when the total value of the stolen items exceeds the amount of 120,000 euros, by profession, by complicity and by continuation, for money laundering from criminal activities, violence against officers, and also for violating gun and drug laws.
The case also involves three members of the criminal group, the details of which have been established and are being sought.
As it turned out as a result of the investigation, the defendants, since at least May 2022, have formed and joined a criminal group-gang with various roles, with the aim of systematically committing burglaries of houses in various areas of Attica, acting with a certain methodology, and thus to obtain illegal material gain.
As for the mode of action (modus operandi), the members of the criminal group used a certain method, namely:
- the day before, they observed the targets by the pedestrians moving around them, in order to draw up an action plan and ensure their timely departure,
- they approached the target houses during the evening or afternoon hours, got into the company car, which they usually rented, and
- they burst into them, breaking windows or balcony doors. At the same time, they made sure to park the company car away from home, and moved to the goal on foot,
- they chose houses whose windows or balcony doors were not visible, and pierced them either with a sharp object or breaking glass,
- have taken increased self-protection measures by covering all parts of the body, using protective gloves and masks, and
they sold stolen goods to pawnshops.
It should be noted that in many cases, in addition to the official car, a two-wheeled motorcycle was also used, driven by a member of the criminal group with a dual role. It was during the burglary that he performed the duties of a butler, and then received the loot in order to escape faster and safer.
In fact, the members of the criminal gang acted with their characteristic arrogance, as they did not leave any effort even in the event of an alarm being triggered and would not hesitate to return to the same target house when the booty they obtained for the first time was important.
In addition, a detained woman played a key role in the activities of the criminal group, who, taking advantage of the fact that she was not marked, handed over the stolen goods to pawnshops in order to collect money and distribute it. other members. At the same time, the wanted member had a supporting role as he owned a company vehicle, making it difficult to communicate with other members.
During the searches carried out in the houses, among other things, the following were found and seized:
- pistol with 6 round magazine,
- Bulletproof vest,
- bitch burglar tool,
- 40 famous brand watches,
- 28 pairs of earrings,
- 39 rings
- 9 bracelets,
- 36 necklaces – pendants with gold chains,
- silver cross, golden pearl and golden ID card
- rose garden,
- 3 designer bags,
- 6810 Pakistani rupees,
- 6 795 euros,
- 20 mobile phones,
- tablet and sim card
- 3 knives, one of which is a karambit type,
- 0.7 grams of raw hemp,
- 2 cars
- two wheeled motorcycle,
- clothing, sweatshirt, 4 pairs of shoes, 2 pants, vest, hat, cardigan,
- electronic tissue sampling device.
At the moment, as a result of the investigation, 20 cases of home theft have been identified, of which one was an attempt, and the total financial benefit received by the criminal group from the detected thefts exceeds 230,000 euros.
Those arrested who have been hired for such and other crimes in the past will be brought before the Athenian Criminal Prosecutor.
