Bulgaria’s chief prosecutor, Ivan Gesev, was unharmed on Monday after a device exploded in his official car. The Bulgarian prosecutor’s office said it was investigating the explosion as an act of terrorism, although the Interior Ministry spoke only of an “incident,” EFE news agency reported, citing Agerpres.

Peter Todorov, Secretary General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that no one was injured during the “incident, which happened on Monday at 11:45 (local time, 08:45 GMT) on the road between Samokov and Kovachevtsi, in the direction of the village of Sofia”.

At the same time, he added that “threats to the life and health of any person are absolutely unacceptable,” and the government will take tough measures.

“The bomb was clearly intended for murder. It was not aimed at intimidation, there were no fireworks,” deputy prosecutor, director of the National Investigative Service Boryslav Sarafov told the media, adding that Geshev’s family was in the car.

Sarafov also stated that the device contained approximately three kilograms of explosives.
