​The boat that overturned on Sunday evening in the Mures River was not registered, and the person driving it – a 33-year-old man – did not have a license and was intoxicated, he was detained, IPJ Arad reports.

“On the evening of April 30, around 8:40 p.m., a 33-year-old man from Semlak moved from the left bank of the Mures River (Periam port – Timiș County) to the right bank (Arad County), a resident of the village of Semlak with a wooden boat. 11 people (5 adults and 6 minors) boarded a boat from the outskirts of Semlak to reach Periam Port. The boat sank approximately 2-3 meters from the shore,” the source said on Monday.

A 3-year-old minor from Semlak, a 29-year-old man from Arad, a 31-year-old man from Nedlak died after the incident, and two children from Nedlak are still being sought.

During the inspection, it was found that the man who was driving did not have a boat driver’s license, and the boat was not registered.

A breathalyzer test showed a blood alcohol content of 0.31 mg/l of pure alcohol in exhaled air, biological samples were taken to determine the blood alcohol level.

Based on the evidence provided, the man was detained for 24 hours to be presented to the prosecutor’s office at the Arad court with a proposal to take precautionary measures. In the case, investigative actions are continued on the grounds of committing the crime of involuntary manslaughter.

Two adults and two children are missing

Three search and rescue teams from ISU Timiş and another three from ISU Arad continued to search overnight for four missing people after a boat capsized in the Mures River in the Periam port area.

“For now, four people are still missing, including two children,” ISU Timiş announced.

On Monday morning, Timișoara firefighters began moving to the scene to continue the search with increased forces.

A team of 24 firefighters from Timisoara will intervene with a service car, six emergency response and control vehicles, a minibus, nine boats, a SMURD ambulance and a crew of four divers.

Also, fifteen firefighters from Arad will operate with four special vehicles of the first intervention and command, four boats and the SMURD crew. (Agerpress)
