The Groupe PSA plant in Metz has been specializing in the production of manual transmissions for over 50 years. Now part of the Franco-Italian group Stellantis, the Metz facility is being transformed to support the company’s energy transition with the joint venture’s production ramp-up electronic transmissions.

This joint venture was established in 2020 between Stellantis and Punch Powertrain produce gearboxes of new electrified models of the concernand will increase its speed to have an annual production capacity from 2024 600,000 electrified dual-clutch transmissionswhich was named eDCT.

Dual-clutch eDCT transmission for 48V hybrid engines

This is an electrified dual-clutch transmission eDCT will be linked to the 3-cylinder 1.2-litre Turbo PureTech petrol engine, also made in France at the PSA Tremery plant, to form a new Stellantis 48V hybrid drive.

This engine promises lower CO2 emissions and will soon be on the market, within a few weeks, on the French-built Peugeot 3008 and 5008, before gradually being offered on other Stellantis cars in Europe, such as Peugeot, Citroen, DS, Opel…

Stellantis Metz: 500 employees specializing in electrification

The Stellantis site in Mecca has already allowed this new activity retraining over a hundred volunteers who have completed 9,000 hours of training to specialize in car electrification.

The transformation of the Stellantis plant in Metz is an integral part of the electric ambitions of the strategic plan Dare forward 2030 of the European group, which will allowinvestment of 30 billion euros until 2025. Since 2018, Stellantis has already invested €2 billion in France in all its manufacturing activities.
